We've been catching up with our GlideSoul Girls around the world and asking them for some insight into their world, and their top tips and tricks for women who want to get started in the sport.

This week we're featuring our GlideSoul Ambassador,  Sharlene West, addicted traveller and surfer. She is keen to share her stories and tips for getting started.
Ready to be inspired...? Read Sharlene's Q&As below:

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself:

A: My name is Sharlene West, I am a Dutch longboard surfergirl that loves to travel. At this moment I am living in Tenerife, Spain. I am a real beachgirl, that loves to do yoga, runs and takes hikes to explore nature. I am a plantbased and environmentally conscious atlete and my biggest passion is the ocean.

Q. What are your favourite GlideSoul Products for surfing?

My three favorite products from GS are:

- the Spring suit with short sleeves in Summer. I love the way it fits, it looks beautiful and feminine and it stays in place in bigger surf. It doesn't give a rash and its light as a bathing suit.

- for summer on colder days and sunny Tenerife winter days I love the Spring suit with front zipper, its comfortable, flexible and stays in place. No creeping up or tight feeling in the armpit area. The little pipes stay over your but without moving and the zipper never comes down, even in big days. It protects and looks super cool! I always get so many compliments when I wear it.

- for winter I love my full suit 3 mm back zip, its classy and stylish, doesn't hurt the neck (and I get irritated there very soon when it is too tight!) It keeps me warm and toasty and I love the way the white of the stripes is so vibrant.

Q. What are your recommendations for women who have never tried surfing before?

My recommendations for the girls who would love to try surfing when its your dream, really do it. I had it in my mind for years and I wished I started it so much earlier. Its such a complement on life. It makes it richer and its such a beautiful way to play and enjoy in the ocean. When you start surfing, it can be hard. It is not easy to learn, and it takes a lot of work but the feeling you get is really rewarding! That first wave standing up, you will never forget that feeling! The best thing about it, is that you never stop learning. The ocean is different all the time and there are so many things to learn.

Q. What are the two best spots/schools you suggest for learning to surf?

I started surfing in Dominican Republic. There is an amazing surf school there, that is called Pauhana. The Caribbean ocean is warm, surrounded by palm trees and the teachers are very good, friendly and professional. They learn you everything you need to know to start in a good and safe way. When I got there, I fell in love with surfing so much that I ended up dropping my ticket home and staying there for 8 months till my money ran out ;)

Thank you, Sharlene!!!
